Andrey Romanov
Director of DAZ (Dnipropetrovsk car plant) 1944 – 1947
Under the guidance of Romanov there was held car plant construction, which was slow, caused by a government that did not care about construction process organization, without providing construction equipment and qualified staff. On May 27, 1947 due to the fact that deadlines were missed, the Minister of the automotive industry of the USSR ordered to dismiss A. Romanov.

Konstantin Vlasov
Director of DAZ, 1947-1950
On May 7, 1947 K.Vlasov was appointed new Director of DAZ, who used to work as a chief engineer at the Gorky Car Plant named after Molotov.
For the first time, under the guidance of Vlasov the plant carried out the production program. At the plant were built and entered into operation new production facilities and the most important, DAZ has begun mass production of automotive technology (ZIS-5, DAZ-150 «Ukrainian»; auto crane K-31, K-32; lift-truck; DAZ-485 «Amphibia» ; ZIS-150; molding machine FM-300).
In parallel to the construction of DAZ there has been begun construction of housing.On April 19, 1950 by the order of G. Khlamov the Minister of the automobile and tractor industry of the USSR, Vlasov was removed from his post as director of DAZ and appointed director of ZIS.
K. Vlasov was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the first level Order of World War, the Red Star, and he assigned the military rank of Engineer Col.

Georgiy Grigoriev
Director of DAZ , 1950-1952
Chief Engineer of DAZ, 1947-1950
On April 19, 1950 Georgiy Grigoriev was appointed Director of DAZ. Under the guidance of Grigoriev there was founded Central Factory Laboratory, in February 1950 the first automotive installation for welding under a layer of flux knots auto crane K-32 was introduced. All this gave the beginning to effective collaboration with the Institute named after E.Platon of Academy of Science of Ukraine, and other research institutions.
Grigor’ev is ascetic of invention and rationalization, the organizer of higher quality production output.
On May 9, 1951 the Resolution of the USSR «On the transfer of Dnepropetrovsk Car Plant to Arms Ministries the USSR, on termination of automotive technology production, and on the organization of serial production of rockets» was issued. Two days later there was signed an order on assignment new secret name – State union plant № 586.

Leonid Smirnov
Director of the Plant №586, 1952-1961
In 1952, Leonid Smirnov was appointed Director of the plant № 586. With the advent of Smirnov at the plant an active and hard work on the creation of “vertical takeoff vehicles” was began. There were gathered and given to customer first missiles R-1 (8A11) from components of Research Institute-88 and the Plant № 456. Test stand №1 was put into operation at the object 100. For the first time LRE51 was launched.
On November 28, 1952 mass production of R-1 missiles of the nodes of its own manufacture has begun.
On April 24, 1952 there was produced the first batch of liquid rocket engines for anti-aircraft missiles. The first missiles R-2 (8G38) were fabricated.
The first three tractor manufacturing units have been made: thermal, mechanical and assembly. The first five tractors of MTZ-2 model were gathered and sent to the customer.
In 1954, 6500 tractors were manufactured.
In 1957, the Palace of Culture was unveiled.
Series production of R-12 missiles at the plant № 586 was begun.
On July 10, 1959 the plant was awarded the Order of Lenin for R-12 missile creation.
On 2 February, 1961 an intercontinental ballistic missile R-16 was successfully launched. In March 1961, Smirnov was appointed deputy chairman of GKOT.

Alexandr Makarov
Director of Production Association UMZ, 1961-1986
Chief Engineer of the plant № 586, 1954-1961
In March 1961, Alexandr Makarov became a Head of the plant № 586.
On June 17, 1961 plant was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
In 1962, 250 thousandth tractor was manufactured at the plant. Output of tractors in the export versions has being prepared.
On January 1962 serial manufacturing and testing of R-16U missile shaft launch were started. Launch vehicle 63S1 (“Kosmos”) launched the first Dnepropetrovsk’s satellite DS-2 into the orbit.
On December 1963 the space manufacturing №7 was organized at the plant, which chief was appointed V. Sokolov.
On August 28, 1964 launch vehicle 65C3 “Interkosmos” was tested at the Baikonur cosmodrome.
On July 1965 have been started tests of overcome missile defense remedy (system “List”) on R-36 missile.
On October 1966 Plant № 586 was renamed to the Southern Machine-Building Plant (UMZ).
On August 1967 at the Baikonur have been began testing of launch vehicle with the spacecraft 11K67 from the missile defense system.
In April 1968 the creators of R-36 missiles in ballistic variant was awarded the Lenin Prize.
On February 21, 1969 500 thousandth tractor was manufactured at UMZ.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR UMZ is awarded a second Lenin Prize for merit in the establishment of rocket and space technology and agricultural machinery.
August 1969 have been started tests of 11K69 missiles (“Cyclone”) with the missile defense system.
On October 14, 1969 LV “Kosmos’ launched DS-UZ satellite ( “Interkosmos-1”) from Kapustin Yar cosmodrome.
Since December 1969 regularly launches of satellites “Meteor” was began.
In December 1969 have been increased production of consumer goods and products of the national economic purpose: gasbags, children’s bicycles, drawing instruments, etc.
On April 22, 1970 the Palace of Water Sports was opened, the best pool of country for that time.
In early 1971, have been began tests of 15A14, 15A15 missiles on the Pavlogoradsky Mechanical Plant’s (PMZ) test base.
On December 27, 1971 “Interkosmos” LV launched Soviet-French satellite “Oreol-1” from the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
In December 1972 was organized investment casting foundry.
In December 1974 tractor UMZ – 6L/6M was awarded Seal of Quality by the National Certification Commission.
On October 1977 have been started flight test of 15A16 and 15A18 missiles.
On April 13th, 1978 by the Order of Minister A. Makarov was appointed General Director of the UMZ.
In December 1979 there were held the first launches of missile system 15A11 “Perimeter” for working out and issuing commands for missiles launch at a special period.
In January 1980 flight-testing of the launch vehicle 11K68 ( “Cyclone-3”) was completed.
In November 1982 Production Association UMZ was named after L. Brezhnev.
In August was opened Universal Sports Palace “Meteor”.
November 1984 were started fire tests of TTRD 15D305 with swinging nozzle.
On December 1984 were started fire tests of engine of first-stage SC 11K77 (“Zenit”).
At UMZ was established department of general assembly of missile system “Zenit” – the largest in the industry.
In November 1985 unit A of LV 11K25 (“Energy”) was tested.
In March 1986 have been started tests of missile system 15A18M with 15F173.
In November 1986, A. Makarov went to well-deserved rest. A. Makarov is twice Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and State Prizes, the winner of the award named after M. Yangel, Doctor of technical sciences, Professor.

Leonid Kuchma
General Director of UMZ, 1986-1992
In November 1986 Leonid Kuchma was appointed General Director for UMZ.
In May 15, 1987 11K25 LV (“Energy”) was launched successfully. At the first stage of “Energy” have been used band of the four first stages of ‘Zenit”.
In December 1987 were completed flight tests of rocket system 15ZH61 and “Zenit” launch vehicle.
In October 1988 was put in operation head assembly corps of “Zenit” LV.
In April 1990 at the PMZ (Pavlograd) were started tests of AVE-100A windmill.
In December 1991 the first sample of two-section trolley UMZ T-1 was produced.
In October 1992, L. Kuchma was elected Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine

Yuriy Alekseev
General Director of UMZ, 1992-2005
On May 18th, 1993 a joint agreement on establishment a booster module 11S851 and modification of “Zenit” launch vehicle was signed between UMZ and design office YuzhnoyeGeneral Director of UMZ, 1992-2005
In October 1992 Yuriy Alekseev was appointed General Director of UMZ.
In December 1992 PMZ started experimental operation of AVE-250S windmill.
In January 1992 the first experimental one-section trolley UMZ T-2 was produced.
On January 25th, 1994 “Cyclone-3” LV successfully launched spacecraft “Meteor-3” into orbit, which implements three programs simultaneously.
On March 2nd, 1994 “Cyclone-3” LV successfully launched spacecraft AUOS-SM-KI into orbit.
In 1995 USA, Russia, Ukraine and Norway have signed a contract on manufacture and launch of “Zenit” LV for “Sea Launch’ program. “Zenit-3SL” carrier rocket with U.S. satellite on board was successfully launched in 1995 from a mobile sea platform in the Pacific Ocean.
In 2000 “Zenit” rocket was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome with the Russian spacecraft “Yenisei” on it. Launch vehicle “Dnepr” was successfully launched with 5 foreign satellites on board.
On September 9th, 2000 Cabinet of Ministers issued a Decree “On attribution A. Makarov’s name to UMZ”.
Manufacture of new generation of satellites – microsatellites was began in 2002.Y. Alekseev is awarded the State Prize of Ukraine, the Medal for valor, the Yuri Gagarin Gold Medal, the 3rd Degree Order of Merit.
In 2003, Y. Alekseev has been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

Was born in August 31, 1957 year in the village Znamenivka Novomoskovsk district, Dnepropetrovsk region. Citizen of Ukraine.
